Seasonal Food Guide: AUTUM

Autum is dry, rough, windy, cool season and having more effect on Vata in body. When the temperature starts to drop, the body starts to protect itself from heat loss by reducing blood flow which further makes skin dry and leaves it dull. You may also feel fatigue due to low blood flow.


Vegetables


Mushrooms, bell pepper, bitter gourd, pumpkin, carrot, capsicum, spinach, beans, ladyfinger or okra, taro or colocasia root, lettuce, chokos, arugula.


Fruits


Kiwi, plum, black jamun, passionfruit, grapes, grapefruit, guava, papaya, pomegranate, strawberries, banana.


Grains and Legumes


Alfalfa, kidney bean, pinto bean, soybeans, amaranth, wheat, oats, red gram lentil (toor dal), black gram lentil (urad dal), green gram lentil (mung dal).


Herbs and Spices


Thyme, sage, black pepper, cardamom, chicory, clove, ginger, lemon grass, saffron, celery.


Nuts and Seeds


All nuts and seeds can be consumed in this season.


Consume food having enough protein, healthy fats and pure organic oil.


Limit consumption of raw vegetables and frozen foods. Also avoid cold beverages. Avoid food having bitter, pungent, and astringent taste. Avoid vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli etc.
